Cam Hopkins Retires as Head Coach of Conestoga Boys Squash

After 17 seasons with Conestoga Boys Squash, Cam Hopkins has announced that he will step down as Head Coach of the Conestoga Boyas Squash.

Coach Hopkins is a US Squash Level 1 coach and Professional Affiliate member and is in his 29th year coaching interscholastic squash programs, having been the head coach at St. James School (MD), Rye Country Day School (NY) and Episcopal Academy (PA)- as well as the assistant coach at Greenwich Academy (CT).

He was a four-year letter winner (1989-1993) at Trinity College and captained the team in 1991-1992. After the 2008-2009 season, Coach Hopkins was honored by US Squash and the US Olympic Committee as Developmental Squash Coach of the Year. In addition, he has served as a member of the US Squash High School Executive Committee since 2010 and currently serves as a member of the Mid-Atlantic Squash Association Executive Committee. Coach Hopkins teaches 8th Grade English at Valley Forge Middle School in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District.

Program History and Team Achievements

Prior to 2005

Squash exists as an active recreational club activity at Conestoga High School.

2005

A group of CHS parents formally organizes “Irish Road Squash Club” with the purpose of becoming a varsity interscholastic sport at Conestoga High School.

2006

T/E School District makes squash a non-PIAA varsity sport, joining crew and ice hockey within the Athletic Department. Conestoga Squash is only the second such district-sponsored public school team in the country along with Harriton/Lower Merion.

2007

First interscholastic season in MASA League.

2008

Girls Varsity established. Boys Varsity plays in first HS Nationals and defeats Darien HS for first dual match victory in program history. Boys Varsity is awarded the MASA Team Sportsmanship Award.

2009

Boys Varsity breaks into the top 32 teams in the nation.

2010

Keith Sproat ’09 becomes first Stoga player to compete on an intercollegiate level at Northeastern University. Boys Varsity beats first MASA League opponent with 5-4 win over Germantown Friends. Boys Varsity “B” team wins HS Nationals title in Division 5 – first public school team to win any national title!

2011

Mike Dolente ’11 earns top 25 national junior ranking.

2012

Boys Varsity “B” team wins second HS National title at Division 5. Boys Varsity “A” team qualifies for MASA Division 1 for the first time. First interscholastic match played by TE/VF Middle Schools against Radnor MS.

2013

TE/VF Middle School team formally enters MASA League and competes in US Middle School Nationals.

2015

Boys Varsity earns highest-ever national ranking of 19th.

2017

Boys and Girls Varsity teams earn top 25 national rankings. Boys Varsity finishes #3 in MASA League behind Episcopal and Haverford. TE/VF Middle School team earns #8 national ranking and finishes the season at #2 in MASA League behind Haverford School.

2019

Boys Varsity “B” team wins the third HS National title at Division 5.

Boys Varsity “A” team earns #8 finishes ranked #8 in Division I of the U.S. HS Nationals for the first time in team history, crowning the team as #1 among U.S. public school programs.
